Job Title: Research Facilitator
Position Type: Contract (Field-based)
Reports To: Project Manager
Job Summary:
The Research Facilitator will moderate focus group discussions and community-based dialogue sessions for a mental health research project. The role involves guiding conversations to explore participants’ experiences and beliefs about mental health, ensuring respectful, inclusive, and open communication. Facilitators must be sensitive, culturally aware, and skilled in group dynamics and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate structured and semi-structured focus group discussions (FGDs) with women using Virtual-Reality tools.
- Create a safe, respectful, and engaging atmosphere for participants to speak freely.
- Ensure informed consent and explain the purpose of the discussions clearly.
- Document or audio-record key discussion points in accordance with ethical protocols.
- Liaise with the research team to share findings and observations from sessions.
- Identify emotional distress or trauma disclosures for appropriate referral.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, or related field.
- Experience facilitating discussions or psychosocial support groups.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues and gender sensitivity.
- Fluency in English and at least two local languages (Yoruba/Igbo and Pidgin English).
- Excellent listening, empathy, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive topics with professionalism and neutrality.
